Privacy Policy
Effective date: October 9, 2026. Research Marketing (“Research Marketing,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a trade news publication and a member of the 24World Media network. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use this website, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights available to you. By using this website, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Who We Are
Research Marketing publishes journalism covering marketing, advertising, media, consumer insights, digital, business, and technology. Our postal address is Research Marketing, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067. Questions about this policy may be sent through the routes described on our Contact page or by post to the address above.
2. Information We Collect
We collect information in three ways: information you provide to us, information collected automatically when you use the site, and information received from service providers acting on our behalf.
- Information you provide: When you contact the newsroom, request a correction, enquire about advertising or partnerships, or otherwise correspond with us, we collect the contents of your message and any contact details you include so that we can respond.
- Information collected automatically: When you visit the site, our servers and analytics providers collect technical information such as your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring pages, pages viewed, and the dates and times of visits.
- Cookies and similar technologies: As described in Section 5, we and our partners use cookies, pixels, and similar technologies to operate the site, measure readership, and serve advertising.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to: operate, maintain, and improve this website and its security; deliver and measure our journalism; understand readership in aggregate so we can plan coverage; respond to news tips, corrections, advertising enquiries, and other correspondence; serve and measure advertising, including advertising cookies described below; detect, prevent, and address fraud, abuse, and technical issues; and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell our journalism based on your personal information, and we do not use information you send us in confidence as a news source for any purpose other than the journalistic purpose for which you sent it.
4. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK Visitors)
Where the General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) or the UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on the following legal bases: our legitimate interests in operating a news publication, measuring readership, securing the site, and funding journalism through advertising; your consent, where we ask for it (for example, for non-essential cookies where consent is required); performance of a contract or steps taken at your request before entering a contract; and compliance with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
5. Cookies and Similar Technologies
Cookies are small text files placed on your device by websites you visit. We use the following categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: Required for the site to function, including security, load balancing, and remembering cookie preferences.
- Analytics and performance cookies: Help us count visits, understand which stories and sections are read, and improve the site. These measurements are used in aggregate and are not used to identify individual readers for editorial purposes.
- Advertising cookies: Used by us and our advertising partners to serve, cap, and measure advertisements, including the header billboard, in-article, sidebar, and footer placements described on our Advertise page. Advertising cookies may be used to limit how often you see the same advertisement and to measure campaign performance.
- Functional cookies: Remember choices you make, such as display preferences.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, including blocking or deleting cookies. Blocking some cookies may affect how the site functions. Where required by law, non-essential cookies are used only with your consent.
6. Analytics Services
We use analytics services to understand readership in aggregate. These providers collect information such as pages visited, time on page, referring sources, and general device and location information (at city or regional level) using cookies and similar technologies. We use these reports to plan coverage and improve the site. Analytics providers act as our processors or service providers and are contractually required to use the data only to provide their services. We do not combine analytics data with the contents of confidential news tips.
7. Advertising and Third-Party Partners
Advertising on this site may be served by third-party advertising partners. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to collect information about your visits to this and other websites in order to serve and measure advertising. That information typically does not include your name or postal address. We require advertising partners to identify sponsored material as advertising, in line with our labelling policy. We do not control the privacy practices of advertisers or of websites linked from advertisements; you should review their policies directly.
8. How We Share Information
We share personal information only in the following circumstances: with service providers who perform services on our behalf (such as hosting, analytics, security, and advertising delivery) under contracts that restrict their use of the data; within 24World Media for operational, technical, and administrative purposes consistent with this policy; when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request; to protect the rights, property, or safety of Research Marketing, our readers, or the public; and in connection with a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, in which case we will require the recipient to honor the commitments in this policy. We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent any sharing could be characterized as a “sale” or “sharing” under the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA”) as amended, you may exercise the opt-out rights described in Section 10.
9. Data Retention
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy. Correspondence, including news tips and correction requests, is retained for journalistic record-keeping and legal purposes and is then deleted or archived under restricted access. Server logs and analytics records are retained for limited periods consistent with security and measurement needs. When information is no longer needed, we delete it or de-identify it.
10. Your Rights — GDPR and CCPA
EEA, UK, and similar jurisdictions: Subject to applicable law, you have the right to request access to, rectification of, and erasure of your personal data; to restrict or object to processing; and to data portability. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. We will respond to rights requests within the periods required by law.
California residents: Subject to the CCPA, you have the right to know what categories of personal information we collect, disclose, or share; to request deletion of your personal information; to correct inaccurate personal information; to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16 years of age. To exercise any of these rights, contact us through the Contact page or by post to the address in Section 1. We will verify your request as required by law before acting on it. You may use an authorized agent where the law permits.
11. Security
We apply reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration, including access controls, encrypted transport (HTTPS), and restricted internal access to correspondence. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Confidential source material receives additional handling protections within the newsroom consistent with journalistic practice.
12. Children’s Privacy
This website is a trade publication intended for a professional and general adult audience. It is not directed to children under 13 years of age (or under 16 in jurisdictions where that is the applicable age), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.
13. International Transfers
We operate from the United States. If you visit this site from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use lawful transfer mechanisms for international transfers of personal data.
14. Changes to This Policy and Contact
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will be revised when we do, and material changes will be identified on this page. Your continued use of the site after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. For any question about this policy or your information, write to us through the Contact page or by post to Research Marketing, 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067.
15. Do Not Track and Preference Signals
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” setting, and some jurisdictions recognize browser-based opt-out preference signals such as the Global Privacy Control. There is no universal standard for how such signals must be honored. Where a legally recognized opt-out preference signal applies to a request under applicable law — including the CCPA rights described in Section 10 — we treat a valid signal as a request to opt out of the applicable sale or sharing of personal information for that browser or device, to the extent required by law. You may also contact us directly through the Contact page or by post at any time to exercise your rights, regardless of any browser setting.
16. Newsroom Correspondence and Confidential Tips
A special note applies to journalistic correspondence. When you send us a news tip, a document, or a correction request, we use the contents and contact details you provide solely to evaluate and, where appropriate, act on that correspondence, and to keep a newsroom record of it. Confidential source material is handled under restricted access within the newsroom, is not used for advertising or analytics purposes, and is not entered into external artificial-intelligence systems. If you ask to communicate on background or off the record, those terms are agreed before sensitive material is shared and are honored thereafter. Nothing in this Privacy Policy overrides a confidentiality commitment made between a source and the Research Marketing newsroom; where such a commitment and this policy could be read inconsistently, the commitment that better protects the source prevails.
